Coastal homes need a careful approach
Brightlingsea is the only limb of the Cinque Ports outside Kent and Sussex, and its maritime history shows in the older streets near the waterfront, alongside family homes and bungalows across the rest of the town. We fit bathrooms and kitchens and carry out building, plumbing and electrical work right across it.
Sea air is hard on bathrooms. Damp, salty air means rooms take longer to dry and mould can take hold quickly, so we pay particular attention to extraction and ventilation in every coastal bathroom we fit. Holiday homes that are left empty also need care with pipes over winter, as our winter plumbing checklist explains.
Walk-in showers are among the most popular changes we make in Brightlingsea, particularly in bungalows. Our guide to replacing a bath with a walk-in shower covers the benefits, costs and pitfalls, and our wet room guide explains the alternatives. If a disability is involved, Tendring District Council may be able to help through a Disabled Facilities Grant.
